It’s finally here, the day you have been planning and organizing for the last few months. You are certainly ready to move if you have followed the steps in this moving guide. Here are a few more last minute tips for the move day.

Being Present For The Move
It is critical to be present when your movers arrive, but if you are unable to be there while your movers are packing and loading, assign a friend or family member to help out and to make minor decisions in your absence. Make sure that this person understands exactly what to do, even down to the smallest detail. You should understand that this person will be asked to sign documents obligating you to charges and authorizing the movers to move your items. Let the moving company know who will represent you.

Go with the job manager/foreman as he makes an inspection of your items for existing damages. These damages along with a description of your goods at the time of loading should appear on the inventory and should be used in case of an insurance damage claim.

Carefully review all of the paperwork and details before your movers depart. Confirm that all details are correct, that the price matches your quote, and that the inventory list is in order.

Say Goodbye To Your Old Residence
Be present until the very last item is loaded onto the moving truck, and make a final assessment before your long distance movers leave. Confirm that all of your belongings were loaded and that nothing was left behind.

Keep your home phone connected throughout the moving day, and after the movers have left, pack the phone in a suitcase for easy access when you arrive at your new residence.

Remove any debris or trash that was left behind and make sure your home is clean. Confirm that the utilities have been shut off. Contact the utility providers to make sure that your utilities will be disconnected tomorrow.

Complete a final walkthrough with the new owner of your home or real estate agent. Give the real estate agent or new owner the alarm codes, house keys, and garage door remote controls.
