You Must Surrender To Live Peacefully

The idea of surrendering makes some people feel very nervous. They have this false belief that they are actually in control of every aspect of their life and the thought of giving up that control causes panic and fear, so they ignore the necessity of surrendering.

As soon as you surrender, you feel an instant shift within. A huge weight is lifted from your shoulders when you realize you can not and should not have control over ever single situation in your world. All things happen for a reason, and without the human ability to see the bigger picture, we automatically fear the unknown.

Having a strong Faith and complete certainty in a power greater then yourself then, would completely eliminate all anxiety or any what ifs you may suffer from.

Surrendering simply means to accept everything in your life situation exactly as it is, at every given moment and to stop forcing against life. To live in perfect harmony with all that is given to you is true freedom. This doesn’t mean you have to like every situation, but the act of saying to yourself “Okay, this is what I am experiencing right now, I have Faith that God won’t give me anything more then I can handle, so I trust this is something I have to go through to grow. I know I can’t see the whole picture so I am certain there is good reason”.

Keep in mind there is always something to learn in every situation you may find yourself.
When you can look at a situation and trust that there is a lesson to learn and that everything needs to happen exactly as it is happening, then there is a distinctive peace that washes over you. Total acceptance brings freedom, power, love, joy and even excitement into living. Life is no longer cut off from you, but flows through you effortlessly.

Surrendering is not an ‘I give up, I can’t do it and now I expect God to do it all” kind of attitude. It’s simply an innocent acceptance of the path that is being shown to you without any resistance on your part what so ever. Once you fully surrender, more choices are presented to you that may have never been an option before. With surrendering, comes an open mind and a positive outlook towards life.

Eckhart Tolle’s book “The Power of Now” is an amazing example of surrendering. As soon as you place your full attention on this precise moment only and completely accept it at face value, then and only then do you have access to your own, full potential. Your power won’t ever be found in yesterday’s events or tomorrow’s hopes, but can be found only in the moment of ‘right now’. The Now is a shortcut to true surrendering and leading a fulfilled life. It’s much easier to surrender to any given situation if you are practicing present moment awareness.

I like to think of life as a gentle ride along a lazy river. When things are going along smoothly I have more choices and can easily connect to the blessings and abundance that surrounds me. But when I forget that I’m just along for the ride and begin to force my own will, or try to make things happen as I want them to, then the ride along the lazy river suddenly becomes a dark, bumpy, fearful and tiresome journey.

As soon I notice that I seem to be struggling, or I feel any kind of resistance to any outer experience, I immediately check in with my thoughts. Without fail I instantly see that I am trying to force something and I am paddling up river. Then I step back, take a deep breath and realign my thoughts with this never ending flow of the present moment and the problem seems to magically disappear. Some days I have to surrender many times and other days I don’t even have to think about it at all.

If you have ever battled depression as I have, then you are well aware of the darkness and dread that stems from worrying about things we can do nothing about. You may focus for days on end on mistakes you’ve made in the past, or feel sick just thinking about what your life will look like this time next year. Love yourself enough to forget about the past and don’t pay any attention to the future. Past and future are only illusions that suck the life right out of us and their main purpose is to take your awareness away from our true reality, the present moment.

After years of lonely suffering and many prescription pills later I can finally say I have surrendered my life to the Source. Since making that choice my life has only gotten better. I now focus on the good things in life, the beauty here for me to see and I have much love to share with others. Nothing good ever comes from avoiding the present. I believe that failing to surrender is the biggest reason for so many unhappy and stressed out people these days. Needless worry and stress will be a thing of the past (and so forgotten) once you are brave enough to surrender.

No matter what you may believe, living is not supposed to be a struggle. Life was given so all could be joyously fulfilled. So stop paddling against the current and just go with the flow. Release your fierce grip on wanting it to all go your way and you will soon be witnessing miracles unfolding in your life.

Allow the doors in your heart to open so you can finally begin to receive the blessings that are waiting for you. Accept that there is a Higher Power who knows what is best for everyone, a Source of life itself, and that Source sincerely wants you to feel every happiness, to be completely fulfilled and has countless gifts of abundance for all creation. Surrender your will to that Source and let your life to unfold naturally.
