There are certain words in the advertising dictionary that you should be careful when you are using them. With so many ads everywhere that come in many forms and sizes, people have began to question what’s the truth to every claim.
Here are some words that you should treat with care when you are using them on your postcard printing and mailing ventures.
1. Best
This has been overused and misused in ads through time. But this doesn’t mean that the word should not be used at all. You still can. If you have been given credit by some credible award giving body, you can use the claim like this.
• We were hailed to be the best by so and so award giving body.
Without such proof to the claim, people will doubt you. They may even laugh at you. And if you are using postcards, you certainly want your recipients to be happy but not at your expense. They should be happy because, at last, you are able to give them what they have been looking for in a long time.
2. Largest
If you are a large company but not really the largest, then don’t use the word. If you have a large number of subscriptions but not really the largest, then opt to claim the truth.
What are you going to get by claiming something that you really are not? You can get away with it one time or more. But in the long run, people will doubt you. This is especially true if your competitors beat you with your own claims.
3. Perfect
Do not ever promise perfection. These days, people are more in tune with reality. They are not really seeking for something they cannot have. So there really is no reason for you to promise what you cannot give.
People will understand if you fail them once or twice. What they expect from you is to be able to do something fast to solve whatever the problem is once it occurred. They will buy your products. But they are really not expecting them to last a lifetime.
What you can do is guarantee them of a good customer service in cases like such. And tell them what you can do in those instances.
Your every ad is being judged by your clients and competitors. So as much as possible, avoid declaring things that you don’t really mean. Do not write the words just to be able to come up with catchy lines on your ads.
You want to catch attention. But you don’t want to be caught because of false claims. Those will backfire on you in the process.
So for your postcard printing and mailing projects, do away from the too good to be true claims. Stay true with the facts. And tell people only the words that you can verify.
