Should you up your marketing during the economic crunch? I will say it again if you still did not catch it the first time – YES! You need to market more when the economy is down and everybody is tightening up their purses.
However, I would also suggest that you have to consider a few important things when marketing during a recession. One, recognize the fact that the customer becomes more stingy because they would want to get more than their money is worth. Hence, they become more selective of their purchases. Two, many of your competition would be cutting back on their marketing budget. And three, because of these two considerations, you then have to adjust your marketing strategy, whether it is radio commercials or brochure printing, to optimize your methods of promoting with a low cost budget in mind.
To put it simply – you need to think of ways to be creative with your marketing campaigns such as your brochure printing so you can work within the budget you have.
First of all, your target market will be looking for their money is worth. This means that they would be more selective when it comes to buying any product or availing of any services. They would make sure first that they get more than what they pay for. Hence, you need to make sure that your offer is much more than the other offers in your particular market niche. You need to be different; so unique that you would certainly stand out as the brand that provides quality products at less the cost.
Secondly, many of your competition would definitely be slowing down their marketing activities and might even be cutting back on their marketing efforts just so they can save their budget. This then would be the perfect time for you to market. With you out there aggressively marketing even with the economy going downwards, your target clients can be convinced that you have what it takes to provide them with what they need – more than the others in your industry.
This brings us to the final consideration – marketing wisely and creatively. It is actually not as simple as infusing more money to your marketing activities or giving your marketing budget the larger piece of your cash pie. What matters during these down times is to make sure you maximize your marketing strategies that they work to give you the results you expect from the budget you have.
Marketing your way to your target clients is actually a good thing during the economic crunch. It is how you adjust your strategy to adopt an innovative low cost method that would make you successful even when everyone is not.
