Most important candidates for the Browser war are Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 and Mozilla Firefox 3.0. Recently, a new contender has been added to browser list, it is Google Chrome. No doubt, Microsoft is enjoying maximum portion of the market share, while the Firefox comes at second place. Now, the novel entry Chrome is trying to make its hold strong in browser market.

According to reports, Chrome uses total (private memory + shared memory) memory of 118,616 K, while Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox 3.0 use 116,028 K and 399,332 K memory respectively. Here, in this feature I am going to explore features of all the three contenders one by one

Google chrome: Chrome is a novel open source web browser with some advanced features and its source code is released under a BSD license. It is the beta release of the software product which possesses some exclusive features of security, speed and stability. Chrome possesses a new privacy mode coined as Incognito, which allows user to create a window where nothing that occurs in that window is ever logged on your computer. One astounding feature that is attracting audience is that it loads fast and keeps your surfing super-fast. Google Chrome uses less amount of memory as compared to other web browsers in the market. Chrome has its own Task Manager that illustrates you how much memory and CPU usage each tab and plug-in is using. Chrome has a good support for the other application like Google Docs, Salesforce.com, and Outlook Web Access.

In spite of the above good features, it has some bad features like lack of add-ons, absence of drop down bar, absence of synchronization between multiple computers and less versatile history function.

Firefox 3.1: Firefox is a good web browser by Mozilla. The latest version of Firefox is Firefox 3.1. This is the second alpha release of the browser and the full product release is expected to be released till the end of 2008.Firefox includes many features designed to improve security. Key features include a sandbox security model, same origin policy, a phishing detector, and an option to clear all private data, such as browser history. Firefox supports tabbed browsing, which allows users to open multiple pages in the same window. Other exclusive features include integrated customizable download manager, Mycroft Web search function, support for Microsummaries, session restore feature, full page zoom etc.

Some bad features of the Firefox 3.1, which some users may don’t like are crash potential and more susceptible to threats.

Internet Explorer 8: Another strong contender in the browser war is Internet Explorer 8. At present , you are using the second beta version of the product and the full release is expected till the end of 2008. IE 8 is supposed to be the most secure and reliable web browser because of Microsoft’s reputation. Some astounding features of the web browser are InPrivate browsing, Smart Address Bar and a gallery full of third party add-ons.

Where as some disliked features are more memory usage, slow processing speed, absence of separate bars for more processes etc.

So, in the conclusive note I can say that the superiority of a these product can’t be scaled on any meter. It can be evaluated on a user’s choice and the battle is still on.
