Why Proper Hygiene Is Important In Acne Care |
||||
|
It might not be one of the causes of acne, but improper hygiene can certainly make the condition worse. When a breakout is present, it's especially important to care for the skin correctly and with a little tender loving care. |

In general, it's recommended the skin only be washed twice a day. Once in the morning and once before bed will generally suffice. Skin should never be scrubbed, scraped or otherwise treated harshly. For effective cleaning, all that's really needed is a soft cloth, gentle cleanser and lukewarm water.
The motion for washing the face should not be a hard wipe, but rather more of a daub. Let the cleanser do its work and leave the cloth just for sopping up the mess. The more gentle you are with your skin, the better.
For those who buy into the myth that dirt on the surface leads to pimples, the question remains why does scrubbing present a problem? The answer is simple - it irritates the skin. When the skin is irritated or damaged from scrubbing, it's more prone to break outs. It's really that basic.
Other things that can irritate the skin and create an environment more ripe for breakouts include:
* Heavy oil makeup.
* Sunlight. This might make an acne prone face look a little better for a time, but if the skin burns (or even tans) and irritation is present, more breakouts are generally sure to follow.
* Harsh chemical treatments. While some of these are actually recommended for treating acne, if your skin responds by getting irritated, the treatment might not be right for you.
In addition to careful cleansing, it's also recommended that acne prone skin not be bogged down with heavy moisturizers and other make up products that contain oil. Instead opt for cover ups that are water based and use a very light powder to set them. Don't forget to get good protection from the sun or avoid it all together.
It's perhaps the number one myth surrounding acne, but when it comes to hygiene, the fact of the matter is that it has little or nothing to do with causing the condition. Improper washing, however, can make it worse. So resist the temptation to be harsh with a scrub and treat your skin like you would a newborn's.
