Why do we need spiritual masters? |
||||
|
All the spiritual Masters down through the ages have told us the same thing: the purpose of life on earth is to achieve union with our fundamental, enlightened nature. Until recently the path for this spiritual transformation has been confined to a relatively select group of people. |

To the silent art of inner transformation - meditation, and to the few teachers who are the embodiment of its noblest heights. But how can meditation possibly resolve personal or global issues? The inspiration realised from the practice of meditation creates a shift in our awareness, and with expert and patient guidance transforms the mind's limited reality into the spiritual heart's infinite capacities of oneness, joy, compassion and universal love.
So many of these meditative experiences especially in the beginning are new, so it takes the authoritative experience of someone who is the embodiment of these experiences to show the seeker how to interpret and apply these teachings in their daily lives? Seekers need to go the source of spiritual compassion, enlightenment and wisdom, a source where meditation and the disciplines necessary for personal progress are selflessly taught. And this source is the illumined wisdom-heart of the spiritual Master.
Sri Chinmoy the meditation teacher says, "The most important thing a spiritual Master does for his students is to make them consciously aware of something vast and infinite within themselves, which is nothing other than God Himself. The highest transcendental Truth is within our hearts, but unfortunately we have not yet discovered it. Eventually they learn how to contact the soul and start listening to its dictates. At that time they have begun to make real progress toward discovering their highest and deepest Self".
Spiritual Masters' gradually bring forward from within the recesses of the seekers' heart the highest realisations of their true peaceful nature. They unconditionally encourage and inspire their students giving them the proper explanations of their meditative experiences. Whether living or deceased a spiritual Master's universal consciousness falls as quenching rain on the parched earth of a seekers' mind, washing away its fears, doubts, insecurities and jealousies. Each spiritual Master compassionately offers to each of their students through their own personal experiences of the Absolute Reality a totally unique path to enlightened fulfilment and happiness, through life's experiences and inner realisations.
There is a saying, "when the student is ready the Master shall appear". Others will say that the Master selects the student, which ever is the case, there can be no greater blessing for any individual who starts this inner journey under the patient gaze of a true spiritual Master to commit to its practice, teachings and philosophies. Not only will their personal transformation take them to unparalleled heights of well-being, happiness and contentment, but by the very nature of karma, shall offer back to the world those same qualities.
