However, dimples are still flaws on the body, mostly showing up on the face though they can show up anywhere. Dimples are simply indentations in the skin. Some people get them when they smile, while others will find them on their legs, stomachs or buttocks.
Facial dimples are mainly hereditary in nature, but that does not necessarily mean every generation will have dimples. They may skip some generations before they make an appearance again. The size and depth of dimples may vary between family members, but there’s a good chance that if both parents have them, so will their children

What Causes Dimples in the Cheek?
Cheek dimples develop because there is a “problem” with the zygomaticus major muscle in the face. A shorter muscle pulls in the skin when you smile, which creates dimpling in the skin. Sometimes this occurs on both sided of the face, but some people may only have one dimpled cheek.

Some people prefer one dimple over two.
Aging stretches the skin and muscles, and sometimes dimples disappear. Many people don’t even have dimples and wish they did. For these people, there are plastic surgeons who can give them one or two dimples in the face. Dimple creation is a simple out-patient procedure that can be performed on any cheek. A small incision is made inside the cheek, and an absorbable suture is used to catch the underside of the cheek and secure it into the soft tissue deep in the cheek.
