What To Do After An Automobile Accident?

Injuries from automobile accidents can be taken for granted, because of course it's very unlikely that you get these injuries more than once. Still, it's always good to know how you can handle such cases.

What's tricky with getting injured from an automobile accident is that you don't even know that you already have an injury, until symptoms appear later. A typical example would be an injury from whiplashes. Whiplashes can actually create very serious soft tissue injuries when not treated immediately. If you think you can get thru the initial dizziness after you've been knocked from behind, think again! Your neck and spinal cord have already been damaged right on the accident. Internal organs may bump into each other and may cause hemorrhage. Disk herniation in the vertebrae can also result. Furthermore, symptoms do not appear until the situation is already worse, if not irreversible.

That's the very reason why automobile owners are required to get accident insurance. However, insurance companies today do not really live up to their promise; they are more interested on gaining profits than helping the injured to recover. They notoriously employ insurance adjusters to use bullying tactics to intimidate claimants.

So what do you do? You must hire a lawyer who can actually fight against these insurance companies even up to litigation in court. Almost all personal injury lawyers today take cases on a contingency-fee basis, even if the stakes are really high. That's the actual motivation of the lawyers today...that's how they're gonna get paid. They're gonna gather all necessary evidence, investigate all angles and examine all documents such as medical and police records, even go to the accident scene to take photos, gather testimonies from witnesses and so on. Yes, it can be very expensive, but as long as you get a very good and competent lawyer your chances of winning will be very high.

To help your attorney further in winning your case, make sure everything that you know about the accident is documented. Write down all that you remember - even keep a daily journal if you need it. Take pictures of the accident and the injury as well - bruises, lacerations, bleeding, punctures, fractures, etc. Have these tangible evidences available to your attorney - it would be very necessary for them. Do not delay in gathering testimony from witnesses by the way. If you get statements from them at a later date, chances are that the statements might not be as accurate as when it was first remembered.

The very reason why you would need to go through this hard process of gathering everything related to your accident is simple - to win your case. And when you win your case, you win money as award. You use that award to cover for your medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, etc. All to make yourself whole again prior to the accident. Remember these things and you're sure to be prepared when this awful experience occurs.
