Generally a keynote speaker will be a person who is well established in a particular field. This field has to be related with the topic of discussion. If the keynote speaker makes a very boring opening then it is most likely that the audience would not stick around for the rest of the conference. However if the speaker strikes a connection with the audience then they would be enthusiastic to stick around till the end.
