When children reach their teen hood, majority of them begin to develop acne. It is been proved scientifically that eight out of ten teens develop acne or pimples when they reach 13. Developing acne is very common which is mainly due to hormonal changes which occur during puberty. It is very easy to take care of acnes; all you need to do is change your diet and give some extra care for your skin. First let’s see what acne is and what causes them. Acne is a condition where a tiny bump emerges from the skin. It especially affects the face, neck, upper back, shoulders and sometimes chest. Both boys and girls develop acne when they reach their teens. These tiny bumps can be pimples, whiteheads, blackheads or cysts. You need to understand that acne is not a disease. All acnes gradually disappear when they reach around 21 years.

Majority of acnes are caused by the bacteria Acne vulgaris; where the word ‘vulgaris’ means ‘a common type of’. The hair follicles on faces contain oil glands which is called sebaceous glands that secrete the oil or sebum. As a teenager’s body begins to develop, his or her body undergoes lot of hormonal changes which make the sebaceous glands overactive, producing large amount of oil. These oils clogs up the pores containing bacteria or dead cells, as a result the bacterium multiplies causing redness and swelling; which cause pimples. Sometimes when the skin reacts with the bacterial infection, the pimple gets filled up with pus. A whitehead occurs when the pore is clogged and closes but later bulges out. Blackhead occurs when the clogged pore remains open and the upper surface gets darkened.

There are numerous ways to fight acne. Wash your face with mild sop and warm water at least twice a day. Never scrub your face, just use a soft towel and pat dry. You can also use a good face wash to keep your skin free from oil and dirt. If you use make ups, then try using ‘oil free’ cosmetics. Don’t press or touch or squeeze pimples, as the pus in it will cause an infection which will leave a scar or mark. Stick on to a good vegetarian or vegan diet which is very healthy. As you know, meat and dairy products contain too much of cholesterol and fat. Eat loads of fresh vegetables and fruits. If you develop too much of pimples or oil, consult a dermatologist who will prescribe you a medicated soap or lotion to treat you acne.
