The NEC sets forth the minimum guidelines for the standards of safety when doing any wiring or other electrical work. Inspectors, engineers, electrical contractors and electricians use the NEC. This does not however guarantee safe installation of your electrical wiring. It is a guideline that should be followed. Every community does have other code regulations that need to be met for that particular community. All electrical work must be done to meet the code of your community. If you need an electrician, find one that is licensed and insured. If they have a license, they have read the National Electric Code.
To understand the NEC one must know electrical terms, trade practices, safety procedures and electrical theory. The NEC is used as a teaching tool for up and coming electricians. In order to understand what the book is saying, you need to have some electrical training of some type. The terms used in the NEC are more technical than non-technical language. It discusses everything about electricity and how things are done correctly. If you want a copy of the NEC, you can find one on the Internet, but you may not understand the electrical terms used or the jargon.
