Many medical hair restoration treatments are available to treat Alopecia Totalis, but few are successful. Unfotunately this condition cannot be treated with follicular unit transplantation or orther surgical hair restoration techniques.

Alopecia Totalis Explained:

The three main conditions of hair loss are Alopecia Areata, Alopecia Universalis and AlopeciaTotalis. Of the three, AT is considered very serious because it causes total loss of scalp hair. The condition is intermediary between Alopecia Universalis and Alopecia Areata and is diagnosed in two types—sudden complete loss of hair and patchy loss, which gradually results into total hair loss.

Alopecia Totalis generally affects young adults under the age of 45. Statistics reveal that almost 2 percent of people with alopecia areata, suffer from Totalis whereas 1 percent female and 2 percent male suffer from Alopecia Areata.

Causes of Alopecia Totalis:

The main cause behind Totalis is the autoimmune disorder, which causes a person’s immune system to attack hair follicles. It is felt that virus infections may trigger this error of immune response.

Treatment for Alopecia Totalis:

There are many medical groups in US cities that provide hair restoration surgery. Hair loss doctors specializing in hair replacement in New York have successfully provided baldness treatment for both men and women hair loss. However alopecia totalis cannot be treated with these techniques of follicular unit transplantation and extraction.

Dermatologist are the primary specialists to treat alopecia Totalis and alopecia Areata. Topical creams and injections can help, but as this is a chronic and relapsing condition ongoing treatment over years is necessary. New and more effective treatments that alter the immune response are under investigation and hopefully will soon offer more successful results.
