So what are the different kinds of images that you need for that well rounded and powerful posters? Well, let me list them down for you so that you can understand.
1. The feature image.
First you have the feature image, this is the main object of your poster. This is the one that will be prominent, attracting readers and of course promoting the message that you want to go out to them. Remember to always be very careful when choosing your feature images.
Make sure you test them out and see how sample audiences will react to your chosen image. Also of course make sure that you get the highest quality rendering that you can for poster printing. Place the image at the center or at least on the most prominent place in the design.
2. The background image or spread.
Besides the main feature image, another image that you will need in your posters is the background image or spread. Now this is not necessarily a photograph but it is a large image element all the same. It is the main design element that sets the environment of the poster itself. While most will prefer it blank, a lot of other designers recognize the need of having a background image.
From simple color gradients, textured spreads or even actual photograph watermarks, the background is the key in establishing the large scale theme of your posters. So make sure you choose the main concept and the colors well for your poster background image. Of course, you should place it as the background.
3. The detail graphics.
Part of the types of images in color posters are the detail graphics. Detail graphics are those small supporting graphics that finish up or polish up the main poster design. These add a little bit more realism, particles or even textures to your poster prints.
They make the figures come alive since they add those extra elements that readers expect from the real versions of your photographs and graphics. So make sure that you have some detail graphics already thought of and already at hand as you design your posters. Integrate them along with your main feature image for the best effect possible.
4. Logos and symbols.
Logos and symbols are special types of images that efficiently communicate messages to your reader. This will help you establish the mood and of course paint the right picture in your posters.
Your own business logos for example will establish the authorship and the professional image of your posters, while symbols will tell people exactly what to expect and what they need to understand with these posters. Make sure that you place these images on the sidelines of your main image though as you will not want them overpowering and cluttering up your layout.
5. Lines and leads.
Finally, you can use lines and leads to help you direct the attention of your poster readers. By adding a line for example that leads from the title of the poster to the main feature image, you can of course help your posters get more people reading and understanding your main poster message. Afterwards you can lead them to the main details through another graphical line lead in your posters.
Hopefully now, you understand all the different kinds of images that most color posters need. Make sure that your own designs also have these elements. Believe me, your posters will not look as complete without all these crucial elements.
