A scrumptious unique and pocket friendly Wedding Cake!!

The history of wedding cakes dates back to roman times when a simple cake of barley or wheat would be broken over the brides head to guarantee her future fertility and guests would scramble for a piece. This custom led to the ritual of sharing the modern traditional cake. The custom changed slightly in England during medieval times where the custom was to have mounds of small buns and the bride and groom were to kiss over the top of the tower to ensure prosperity and health. We do see history repeating itself with the introduction of the individual cup cake tower as an alternative to the traditional cake which is tiered. The tiered and frosted cake was introduced during the mid 1600s by a visiting French chef who did not like the sight of cakes falling to the floor.

Most couples like to have a unique wedding cake which will be liked by the guests and talked about. Having an exclusive wedding cake is what they are usually looking for but in today’s times most want a cake that is pocket friendly. One way to bring down costs is to use a sponge cake or a chocolate cake instead of a rich fruit cake.

One can also have as an alternative, tiers of fruit, sponge and chocolate and use the fruit cake for the small topmost tier. A good wedding cake supplier can make a standard wedding cake design unique by matching it to the colour of the wedding theme. This will ensure a unique cake without the added cost of designing a cake from scratch. One can have various designs for cakes such as castles, butterflies, mountains and icicles, Hawaiian concept, to a musical note etc. one can also design the cake to match the theme of the wedding such as an era based theme or a fantasy based scenario or it could be simple as a cake themed around a colour scheme. Having a colour based theme is easier on the pocket than a fantasy scenario based theme, whereas opting for an era based theme could work out to be cheap sometimes specially if using cup cakes. If one were to base a wedding on a medieval theme then the couple could opt for a tower of individual cup cakes. If one has a wedding based on a regency era then one could opt for a chocolate fountain with individual cakes for each guest. To keep costs down one could go for smaller sized mini cup cakes as most people do not want to eat a lot of cake at weddings.

One should also account for people with allergies and have a gluten free or nut free tier in a traditional cake, with cup cakes it is easier to look into these issues. The most important aspect for any couple would be to book the cake well in advance to ensure having a good and reputed baker who will know all the tricks to keep your costs down without compromising on design and style.
