South India is located in the peninsular Deccan plateau and is surrounded by the Indian Ocean in the south, Arabian Ocean in the west and Bay of Bengal in the east. The various languages spoken by the people of South India include Tamil, Telugu, Tulu, Kannada and Malayalam.

Kerala – popularly known as "God's own country" is bestowed with mesmerizing backwaters, which attract travelers from all over the globe. Apart from the green surroundings, small villages and vibrant people there are some other attractions that entice a traveler to visit this lovely and serene place. The beautiful view of sunset is worth watching on the romantic evenings of Kerala. Houseboats in Kerala are traditionally known as "Ketuvalloms". Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary in Tamil Nadu is among the most famous ones and is located on the slopes of Western Ghats. Marina Beach in Chennai is the longest urban beach of the world. It stretches for more than 13 kms along the Bay of Bengal. Muttukkadu is another popular tourist destination in Tamil Nadu. It is ideal for motorized boat rides and also for wind surfing. Maple beach in Karnataka is an ideal picnic place with its Virgin Beaches. This beach is renowned for its Virgin Silvery beaches that offer a spectacular view.

Kapaleeswarar temple is an ancient Shiva temple, which is found to be the largest temple in Chennai. It is a masterpiece of Dravidian style, culture and heritage. Some of the fragmentary inscriptions belong to the 12th century.

Sri Parthasarathy temple in Tamil Nadu is dedicated to Lord Krishna. It was built by the Pallavas in the 8th century and is one of the oldest surviving temples in Chennai. Kailasanatha is one of the earliest temples and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It was built by a Pallavan king in the 7th century. Some of the famous temples in south India are Sri Ekambarnathar temple, Kamaskhi Amman, Meenakshi temple in Tamil Nadu and Ambalapuzha temple, Guruvayour temple in Kerala.

South India is a marvelous place to spending vacations. There are several interesting places in this magic land.
