February the 14th is Saint Valentine's Day or simply Valentine's Day.

It is a day where we show our appreciation to our nearest and nearest our significant others, our loved ones, our lovers ….the list goes on!

The holiday is named after two Christian martyrs named Valentine. This day became associated with love in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love became widespread.

It is a day where we can show our love, lust and affection for each other; sending Valentine's cards and other treats such as chocolates, it also gives us an opportunity to be soppy and get away with it.

The exciting aspect about this day is that the cards and gifts are often posted anonymously, which leaves a little to the imagination…

A lot of men and women wonder: “How can I impress my lover on this special day but without breaking the bank…” And it is a fair question, since this day is right after Christmas and our credit cards have already taken a big hit buying presents for close ones.

Here is a list of things you may want to consider when on a budget but still want to make a memorable impression:

1. Love letters.
These can be a great way to show that special someone how you feel for them.
Write all the nice things down that you think someone close to you would like to hear and seal it with a kiss. Remember to use good quality pen and paper as well as a nice envelope.

2. Learn how to give a nice and simple massage. There are tones of books on this in the library and also a lot of free material on the web. Grab some nice fragrant massage oil and bingo.

3. Make a quick webpage for your loved one.

I would reserve this for someone you already know quiet well. Make sure to post some nice photos of them and perhaps of yourself. If you are good at writing poems, here is your chance to post one up or if you are not then write something sweet along the lines of:

“Hi xxx, just wanted to say I am thinking of you and wanted to let you know that you are a special man/lady and I can’t wait to see you again.”

4. A Picnic
Take your partner for a romantic picnic. Make some nice food at home, bring a blanket, find a nice spot and enjoy each other’s company…

Remember it’s the thought that counts… usually it’s the little things that create the lasting memories. Enjoy your Valentine’s Day however you wish to spend it.
