The fabricator shall neither use nor reproduce any portion of the CAD drawings without written permission of the Engineer of Record (EOR). The use of CAD design files and drawings shall not in any way evade the fabricator’s responsibility for proper checking and coordination of details, dimensions, component sizes and material quantities as required to facilitate the preparation of shop drawings.
Approval of the shop and erection drawings shall constitute the following:
- Confirmation that the fabricator has correctly interpreted the CAD design drawings in the preparation for submittals
- Confirmation that the EOR has reviewed and approved the steel connection details shown on the shop drawings and submitted in accordance with industry standards
Such approval shall not relieve the fabricator of the responsibility for either the precision of the detailed steel dimensions in the shop drawings or the general fit-up of structure members that are to be assembled in the field. Design modifications are often requested by the erector to facilitate proper erection of the structural steel frame. When this is the case, the erector should inform the fabricator well before preparation of shop drawings so that the fabricator may refer the erector’s request to the EOR for resolution.
