Types of Popular weight loss diets

There are so many different types of weight loss diets that we all have to choose from these days. Which one works best? Everyone has his or her own testimony. What works for one person may not necessarily work for you. However, how do you test to make sure that you are choosing the right one?

It is weighing game – no pun intended. You have to look at the most healthy way to lose weight.

Anne Collins Diet - teaches how to forget about being afraid of food and that the best way to lose weight is to make friends with food. Losing weight the right way is to eat smaller portions during the day and eat healthy foods. Easy weight loss is not diet foods, but ordinary foods that can be eaten by everyone in the family.

The 3 or 4 Day Diet – teaches you to drink a lot of water and eat about 600 calories a day that will help you to lose up to 10 pounds.

5 Day Miracle Diet – teaches you to eat within thirty minutes of waking up, unless exercising, stretch to forty-five minutes.

7 Day Diet - Monday: eat all the fruit and vegetables you want, but no bananas. Tuesday: eat all the veggies you want. Wednesday: eat all the fruit and veggies you want. Thursday: 5 bananas, 5 glasses of milk.

Friday: 4-3oz steaks of beef or chicken with fresh veggies. Saturday: 4-3oz beef steaks with veggies. Sunday: 4-3oz beef steaks with veggies.

Claim: Lose up to 14 pounds.

16 Point Macerat Weight-Loss Plan - The plan includes two bottles said to contain extracts totaling about 20 herbs. Various numbers of drops are to be taken several times a day. There was no evidence given to prove that there were any effective ingredients for weight control. Some users reported diarrhea and increased urination after using the drops.

Beverly Hills Diet - A book authored by Judy Mazel and Michael Wyatt. The authors suggest that by eating proteins, carbohydrates, and fats all at the same time you “confuse your enzymes” causing your food not to digest properly. Their diet emphasizes eating less fat and much more fruit.

Cabbage Soup Diet - is based on a fat-burning soup that contains negligible calories. The more soup you eat the more weight you should lose. A caution is that one should not eat just the soup malnutrition will set in.

Diet Teas – These are often made with the herbal laxative Senna and it stimulates the colon, leading to fat excretion. This type of weight loss is due to mostly water loss. It can result in extreme diarrhea, nausea, and dehydration. These teas can be addictive and works only temporarily.

Diet Pills: They work by forming a gel around the stomach, which means it traps the fat before it gets to the intestine. The media has disapproved of them because of the misleading information given about weight loss.

Diuretics: Intended to shift water quickly through the body, diuretics are often prescribed for heart patients because they reduce blood pressure.

Diuretic abuse is another method of purging. May cause temporary weight loss by causing the body to shed water. However, as soon as the body is back to its normal state, the weight returns. Meaningful weight loss requires loss of body fat.

Dr. Atkins Diet - Introduced by Dr. Robert C. Atkins. Teachings are to eat as much fat and protein as you like as long as you eat very little carbohydrates. A high fat, low carbohydrate (low carb) diet causes a condition called Ketosis that is increased production of blood ketones, which suppresses hunger. Carbohydrates feed fat in your body. You never go hungry, nor deprive yourself. Exercise is not emphasized on the Atkins Diet.

Jenny Craig - A commercial diet modeling Weight Watchers and Diet Workshop. Is a reduced calorie diet that focuses on balanced nutrition (60 % carbs/ 20% fat/ 20% protein) that follows the Food Guide Pyramid.

Slim Fast - The Ultra Slim Fast plan is drink two liquid meal replacements and eat a “Sensible” dinner. This can force your body into a starvation mode in which the body uses up the calories at a slower rate than normal. The plan is not long term and sustainable.

Evaluate your weight loss goals for yourself and make the choice that suits your body type and your health.
