Types of Adult Mobility Scooters

Author: Robert Thomson

There are several types of adult mobility scooters on the market today. Know what type is best for your needs before you purchase.

Mobility scooters were earlier used only by the elderly, but now they are used by people of all ages. They are in great demand due to the independence they provide to those that need help moving about.

There are a few different type of scooters found in the market. There are the 3 wheel mobility scooters, the 4 wheel scooters, the heavy-duty scooters, and the travel mobility scooters. How would you know what is best suited for you? You wouldn’t, unless you understand the functionality of each.

The three wheel mobility scooters are great for indoors. They have very tight turning radius, which makes moving around corners easy as well as going around something circular. This makes getting around the kitchen or grocery store much more convenient. If you are looking for a mobility scooter mostly for use indoors, this is a great option.

The four-wheel mobility scooters are good for indoors as well as outdoors. The problem is they lack the turning radius that the three-wheel scooter provides. These are great for outdoors on rough surfaces. The four wheels provide the required stability. The wheels are bigger and the suspension system better, so venturing anywhere outside, even going over curbs or rocky areas is not a problem. If you are looking for a scooter to use outdoors, this is it.

The travel mobility scooters have two options, three wheels and four wheels, but mostly three wheels. These are lightweight. They are small enough to be disassembled and are portable enough to be carried anywhere in a car. They are useful for people who are on a low budget but wish to go outdoors a lot and like having their mobility scooter with them wherever they go.

The heavy-duty mobility scooters come in four wheels and provide heavier weight capacity of around 400 to 500 pounds. They are longer than the other mobility scooters, have larger seats, and have more legroom. They certainly are more expensive than the others too.

With all these options, there certainy is a mobility scooter to suit every lifestyle. Freedom and independence are not far away with these scooters and they make a person forget their medical issues and enhance the quality of their life.
