Tutorial to Clean Outdoor Cushions and Throw Pillows

Maintenance of your outdoor furniture is an important part of outdoor entertaining. Your cushions and pillows also need regular maintenance to keep your patio looking great in every season.

Here is a tutorial that will help you make your outdoor cushions and throw pillows look as good as new, in no time.

1. Lay the outdoor cushions and throw pillows on a clean, hard surface. Ensure that there is no dirt on the surface. You could use the patio or the deck for this purpose.

2. Prepare a strong cleaning solution that is a mixture of dishwashing detergent, soap and warm water. Scrub the entire surface of the cushions and the pillows thoroughly. Ensure that no area is left untouched. Now turn them over and scrub the other side.

3. Let the cleaning solution work its magic on the cushions for at least 15 minutes. After that, spray the cushions with a garden hose at high pressure. Ensure that you cover the entire surface area with the hose. The force of the hose will force out all the dirt from the outdoor cushions and throw pillows. Once that is done, hose the cushions one more time to ensure that no cleaning solution is left on them. Do this for both the sides.

4. Hold the cushions firmly and squeeze all the water out of them. Do this a few times as this will eliminate all the water and soap that had seeped inside the fabric. Now, place the cushions to dry in the sun. Or if you let them dry on a hard surface, do remember to turn them over in a few hours.

5. If possible, spray the outdoor cushions and throw pillows with a high-quality fabric protector. This will help protect the cushions from dirt and stains for a longer period of time. You can insert little pouches of scented potpourri before slipping on the covers on your cushions and pillows for a gentle, lingering scent and also to ward off insects.
