Steps have been taken to improve train safety. According to Federal Railroad Administration Administrator, Joseph H. Boardman, The action plan launched in 2005 is aimed at: reducing the most frequent and highest-risk causes of train accidents; accelerating research to strengthen rail tank cars carrying the most dangerous hazardous materials; addressing the effects of fatigue on train crews; enhancing highway-rail grade crossing safety; and using data in a new way to better direct federal inspection resources to where they are needed most, according to the FRA.
Causes of Train Wrecks
Whether you are a passenger on a train, a driver or passenger in another vehicle, or simply happen to be in the vicinity when a train accident occurs, you may suffer painful and long lasting consequences. Train companies have a duty to protect their passengers and the general public from danger by checking and servicing stock regularly, and making sure that the tracks, signals and other components function properly. However, whether due to human error or deliberate negligence, train accidents continue to occur.
You or a loved one may be the victim of an accident caused by:
Derailment
Collision
Mechanical problems
Debris on the track
Vision obstructed by trees
Human error
Devastating Effects
While no amount of money can ever compensate for the physical, emotional and financial anguish caused by a train accident, it is worth remembering that the financial costs of such an event can have a huge impact on the victims and their families. The cost of caring for those suffering from serious physical injuries is never an easy burden to bear, especially if the victim is unable to work because of their physical condition. This can leave all those involved feeling hopeless, and the thought of taking on a big insurance company to make a claim for badly needed and much deserved compensation is often too stressful to even begin the process.
An experienced railroad accident attorney will begin pursuing your case by gathering evidence needed to fight for the compensation you deserve. To start the process, you will need to meet with your chosen attorney for an in-depth consultation.
