It set a new trend in the mobile segment making it as the “hottest” feature. Lately, Indian market has also been invaded by many touchscreen phones ranging from Apple iPhone to HTC and Samsung.
The article lists various such touchscreen phones available in the Indian market and sold as hot cakes:
Taking the lead in this segment is Apple iPhone. Launched last year, it was a spectacular device and this year saw its 3G compatible updated version. The device created waves and was successful enough to garner the title of “gadget of the year” award. It achieved rave reviews from users and has a long fan following in all countries; India is also not lagging behind. With its Indian launch on August 22, the device got many users in the market which has massive users for entry level segment and mid level segment. Priced at INR 33,000, the device is bit pricey as it lacks many basic features like video recording and indeed push e-mail for smart PDAs.
The next comes the cut neck competitor for it by Korean manufacturer, Samsung. Samsung has recently launched its much acclaimed Omnia in Indian market priced at INR 39,000. The PDA is bundled with many features and has raised bar for iPhone. With touch enabled screen, the phone comes with 5MP camera, 7.2Mbps HSDPA connectivity, built in GPS, and Wi-Fi. The Smartphone runs on Microsoft Windows Mobile software and comes with choice of 8GB or 16GB models.
Moving ahead is a Smartphone by Asus, Asus P320. The WinMob features GPS navigation, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi for internet access, Bluetooth and USB connectivity. It is powered with 200MHz processor, 128MB Flash ROM, 64MB DDR RAM, 2MP camera, and microSD card. The touchscreen PDA is priced at INR 12,900 and is available in two shades: pink and pearlescent white.
The above mentioned phones are GPS enabled. But LG with its handset, LG 1000 has taken care of CDMA users who wish for touchscreen option. The phone is much like Nokia communicator with 2.8” touch sensitive LCD along with an internal display. It supports QWERTY keyboard. Equipped with 2MP camera, video recorder, option to extend memory up to 8GB, Office mail applications for corporate users; it is priced between INR 22,000 – 25,000. Among other features, it supports Bluetooth, and external memory via microSD cards.
The next device which can be discussed in this category is by the Taiwanese vendor HTC. HTC has the honor of being the first company to launch a touchscreen handset in Indian markets. So far, company has launched HTC Touch, HTC Dual, HT Cruise and the latest is HTC Diamond. It sports a WCDMA/HSPA network for operating and has 2.8” VGA touchscreen display. Also, integrated is 3.2MP camera. The phone runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, on-board memory of 4GB with 256MB Flash, and 192MB RAM.
The list is long, other touchscreen devices available in the Indian market are HTC P3000, Samsung TouchWiz F480. Soon Indian markets can see touchscreen handsets from Nokia, namely “Nokia Tube” and by other competitors also.
