Good summer wedding themes are all about finding the right inspiration. In fact, I was looking for summer weeding ideas not too long ago and was thrilled with all of the great ideas. So thrilled I could have had 5 weddings! So yes, even though lots of ideas are really great, it can also be really overwhelming.
Like you, I wanted the perfect dress, invites, flowers, favors, etc. Deciding sure was a hard task! These are the top 5 ways I was able to find inspiration and then turn my inspiration into a full-blown theme!

Top 5 Easiest Ways To Find Inspiration

1. Inspired By a Region
Creating a theme based on region is as simple as thinking of the place that most feels like summer for you.

For me, it's the Mediterranean. The idea of lavender filled terracotta pots as a centre-piece actually thrills me! Other ideas also include plain glass bowls filled with lemon. Favors can be a basil plant, lavender leaves, or anything in between!

Other ideas include a particular beach. For instance… The French Riviera or Spanish Riviera.

A theme like the Dead Sea brings ideas like dead sea salt favors and exotic color schemes to mind!

Waikiki is another location. You can plan for a luau as entertainment. For this bright blue and white color schemes jump out at me!

2. Inspired by a Summer Flower

There are so many wonderful summer wedding flowers. If you choose a summer flower theme table decorations are a given. You can also seek out invitations and favors that have the flower as part of the design. Or, you can get invites in the particular color of that flower.

The first that comes to mind is a calla lily wedding. With tons of beautiful invites and favors it is a perfect simple + special theme.

The daisy is a perfect summer flower for outdoor weddings and casual affairs. This flower also has lots of favors and invites in this theme.

Since summer is so much about flowers, the flower is really your choice!

3. Colors of Summer Inspire

I’ve always thought that color is a beautiful and simple theme for summer weddings. With this as a theme you may be able to avoid expensive flower centerpieces and opt for candles or rock displays instead.

Some great summer color combinations include:
- Green and pink
- Red and orange
- Yellow and red
- Purple and fuscia.
- White and pink
- White and green

With a summer wedding color theme your palette is endless!

4. Inspired by the Time of Day Your Wedding will Take Place

Most of the above themes can be used regardless of time of day, however, there are some ideas that are more suited to morning, afternoon and evening weddings.

For late morning weddings, a Tea Party theme works really well. It also works well for both indoor or outdoor weddings. Table settings can consist of flowers in tea pots or a simple daisy bouquet. Tea works as the perfect favor for a “tea party” wedding theme. Either loose or bagged tea works well!

A garden party is another simple theme which would be suited to an afternoon wedding. Favors and decorations are obvious for this theme – pretty flowers all the way!

For both of these themes, color schemes can be flexible and lively. There is a little bit more room for variation which is nice. It’s great for if you’re the kind of couple of who doesn’t want everything to be perfect and “matchy”.

Have you thought about a “patio” theme? This is very similar to a garden party or tea party, but would be much more suited for late afternoon or evening weddings.

It’s obviously better suited to outdoor weddings, but, with this is a theme you can simple decorate with lanterns, citronella candles, and tiki torches. You can also throw in a few flowers to add color.

5. Inspired by Your Wedding Location

We were married at a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant. This really simplified our theme. We went for Mediterranean and picked a color theme that we thought was summery, but still well-suited to the environment.

If you’re getting married at a garden, your theme is simple – flowers!

If you’re getting married in a downtown hall, consider trendy colors like brown and blue for your theme. Use clean lines, keep table decorations modern and simple.

Now…How to Bring Your Inspiration to Life

Write down the top three things that you think about when you think of your theme/inspiration

For instance if your theme is “Hawaii” the top five things that might come to mind are:
1. Palm trees
2. Tiki torches
3. The color blue – or even a specific color of blue
4. Seashells
5. Flip flops

With those 5 ideas you can move toward gathering information that will pull your theme together.

Look in magazine, go online, and search through your own photo archives. Create a collage with the items that most excite you.

With that you will likely be able to see what you are most drawn to and excited about. Make these colors, feelings and references to life.
