Without drywall, just level it and fasten it to wall studs with wood screws. With drywall, leave at least a half-inch space between the pegboard and the wall so the hooks can fit through. There are two common ways to do this. The first one uses 1x4's to make a frame. They get fastened to wall studs, and then the pegboard gets fastened to them. The other one uses plastic spacers or washers that slide over the screw right before it gets fastened to the stud.
