To V or Not To V: Should you use Vinyl Signs?

To V or Not To V: Should you use Vinyl Signs?

Billboards. Banners. Posters. These are just some of the forms of vinyl signs that we see everyday by the road, in the mall or on a long stretch of hallway. Vinyl is fast becoming a favorite material for advertisements and promotions.

If you need to have your own marketing tool, this may be the right material for you. But to make a better decision, you’ll need to take a closer look at this substance.

Characteristics of vinyl

Vinyl is a synthetic material that is both durable and flexible. It can be rolled like paper but it is strong like plastic.

Here are its other properties in detail:

• Good for printing
Vinyl has a smooth surface. Images, graphics and texts come out well when printed on it. Quality is as good as posters, minus the gloss.

• Does not weigh much
It is not a heavy material so it does not take much effort or tools to mount this, depending on the size of course. Some can be placed on a tripod whiles other are hung using strings. For billboards, however, big structures need to support its size and weight, as well.

• Resistant against tearing
Since it’s plastic, it does not easily break or split. This is one of the reasons why many advertisers use this for outdoor ads or announcements. It’s guaranteed to provide better visibility and render your messages a better survival rate with its durability. After all, it does not simply rip apart when exposed to weather elements.

• Resistant against water and stain
Vinyl is water resistant so water glides away from the surface unlike pure cotton cloth streamers and paper posters that can easily absorb liquid. Rain cannot destroy the material easily, nor snow or mud. Dust and dirt come off easily with a few wipes.

• Fade and smudge resistant
Some printing companies pass vinyl signs under ultraviolet (UV) light so they become fade – and water-resistant. This makes your vinyl’s color fast as the rays of the sun do not easily reduce the intensity of the colors. This explains why vinyl banners are the ideal ads placed along highways or atop buildings.

The downside of using vinyl

For big signs, use of vinyl may present a problem, especially in windy areas. Unlike cloth and other much porous materials, air cannot pass through vinyl. Some people place incisions to allow air to flow though, otherwise even the metal frames that support it are at risk of collapsing, the strings snapping, and the vinyl tearing itself down completely.

Due to the force and stress of the wind, vinyls may be no match against nature. However, mesh banners can well brave the winds and survive against such conditions.

Like most things, vinyl has its own advantages. If you want to advertise in more places than one and give your products the chance to become more accessible and visible to the market, then vinyl signs may well be the advertising tool you need. Make this and weather-resistant material the instrument that will deliver you the sales and business activity you need. And with its life-span and strength, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth.
