Snoop Around
Now you can utilize your spy skills that you might be fond of in your younger years. Do not be afraid to do so. You never know, your competitors are also monitoring your every advertising move.
There are ways to do this part. It varies from simple to complex. But it’s really up to you how you’d like to do your research.
1. Immersion
Do you know how most actors get to fit into their roles? They immerse themselves to what the role calls for them to do. For example, if an actor has to portray the role of a murderer. He can opt for the following.
• Read books about those types of people.
• Hang out in a prison cell and interact with the inmates to get a feel of how they think, how they act and talk.
• Watch old movies that have same characters.
You can follow their lead when you are doing your own immersion.
• Read the ads of your competitors. Look closely to what words did they use on their postcard design. This is because you will be using the same method.
• Act like a customer and read the ads targeted at you. Get a feel of what works and what doesn’t. You must also understand why.
• Read the old ads. This is so that you will get a feel of the tools that have worked in the past. You can try to get some inspiration from them once in a while.
2. Dig deeper
Know what the market craves for by asking around. You can do this by:
• Interview. You can approach people individually and ask them about their opinions. You can also set up for a focused group discussion. Make the group discuss extensively about your concerns.
• Survey forms. You can also use this tool to ask about people’s opinions. You can leave the forms on various places. You can also mail those out. But to increase the chances that the recipients would respond, give them incentives or freebies after they have accomplished the forms.
3. Write the ideas
You never know when a good idea will struck you. So always be ready with pen and paper. There are also times when ideas seem to flow endlessly. Write all those down.
After a time, pick the ones that seem to be better from the rest. You can base your current projects on that. Keep the other gems for future use.
Research is an important part of any good advertising. This is where everything must take off. So be cautious when performing this task.
Your postcard design relies heavily on the graphics as well as the words in it. So get the right stuff on your materials. Gather through research and implement them while the words are still hot.
