Handing out your business cards is essentially the basic action for building your relationships, whether its friendship or business.
When you hand out your card to someone, it means more than just mere introduction. Your full color business cards say so much more.
So what does your business cards say when you give them out?
1 – You enjoy your meeting and that you are interested in the other person.
Showing that you’re interested is reflected by your handing out your card to the other person. By giving out your card, you are actually telling them that you enjoyed the time you spent talking to them and that you would want to establish a relationship. When your network feels appreciated, they would be more open to deal with you and respond positively to your message.
2 – You’re interested in contacting them in the future…and would also like to have their card.
Asking for a card in return means you’re interested in connecting with them in the future. It is very basic actually. But nevertheless, it is often a mistake made by many entrepreneurs. For whatever reason they have, most business owners, especially those who are just starting, seem to find it uncomfortable to ask their new-found network for a card. This is such wasted opportunity because if you don’t know it by now, people do love to give away their cards. They’ve put too much effort, time and money in creating them that they would love to let other people see them.
Moreover, it would be easier for you to contact the person if you have his or her business card right? Imagine having to look for the contact information later on when you badly needed their business.
3 – You also want them to get in touch with you.
Basically, your business cards have one purpose in life – give the other person the means to contact you. You never know what that other person can do to help you with your business. When you get your name out there, you have better chances of connecting with someone who you can build a relationship with. The most unlikely connections sometimes make the best results. To ensure that they get your details right, keep your information updated most especially your phone numbers and email address.
So the next time you give out your information, think outside your card. It is definitely more than just a small piece of paper. It can definitely change not only your life but your network as well.
