Considering having one of your vehicles transported by hiring a car hauling company? If so, there are a few key factors to keep in mind that will help to make your overall experience go a little smoother. Vehicle transport companies understand that they are moving precious cargo when it comes to your vehicle, so every little thing you can do to make their job a little easier will benefit both parties involved in the end. If you remember and follow these ten recommendations when preparing your vehicle for transport, you should have an overall positive experience.

1. Call around to different transporting companies to see who will get you the best price and highest quality of service for that price.

2. Consider whether you would like your vehicle to be enclosed or open during transport. Enclosed is usually a bit pricier than if you were to just go with open transportation.

3. Once you have found the auto moving company you would like to use, ensure you have a good vehicle pick up and drop location. You should consider that it is most likely a tractor trailer that is coming to pick your vehicle up so there needs to be adequate space for the truck to get in and out with ease. (dead end streets, and small neighborhoods are probably going to make it difficult)

4. Leave a little gas in the tank, even though your vehicle won’t be driven around town, it will have to be driven on and off the truck multiple times if necessary.

5. Don’t pack your car full of house hold items or any items of value. The transporter may refuse to move your vehicle if there is a bunch of personal items inside the vehicle. You shouldn’t want to risk any chance of them getting stolen and the car hauler will not want to take responsibility for them.

6. Walk around the vehicle with the driver when filling out the vehicle condition report. This is key to ensure that all current damages and remarks are noted prior to the vehicle leaving your possession.

7. Take pictures of the vehicle prior to it being transported, this just ensures that there is no discrepancy over the condition of the vehicle in the end.

8. Make sure someone is home or at the origin and destination locations at the times arranged with the transporter.

9. Make sure you have the name and number of the driver so that you can contact them if for some reason there needs to be a change in the destination location.

10. Take a few minutes to check the overall mobility of the vehicle i.e. Tire pressure, operable, keys.

Of course there is much more that goes into moving your vehicle, however, these ten suggestions are a great start for you to consider if this is the first time you are hiring a vehicle transportation company. Getting your vehicle transported can seem like a stressful thing but do everything you can do to prepare your vehicle and it should be a breeze!
