In case you haven’t noticed, but the customers are way too wary with company letters stuffed in an envelope that shouts. Often, business owners think that in order to get noticed, they need to make their marketing materials smashing and with a lot of extras to dazzle the senses. On the contrary, customers are not anymore comfortable with this type of advertising because they have had too many bad experiences with too aggressive marketing managers. Aggressiveness quickens the possibility of your customers running to the other direction.

As always, first impressions last, and the way you present your proposal in an envelope usually decides if it’s a keeper or not.
Everyday, your potential clients receive mail in bulk that they usually screen them before they could even reach the insides of the house. You should see my trash mail. I could earn a fortune if I could sell the amount of paper I get from advertisements of products and services not only from my area, but from the whole west coast. If your envelope got thrown in the garbage bin even before your target client could open it, what’s the use of your proposal then? Hence, it is important that you make a good first impression with your envelope so you don’t get thrown away.
A plain white envelope still has the upper hand when it comes to high response rates. No images or pictures aside from the company’s name and return address, and written by hand. Adding a little personal touch goes a long way with the customers.

Everybody loves a good spy story, with all the intrigues and excitement usually present in the plot. Similarly, you can’t resist a plain white envelope. It exudes an aura of intrigue that captivates your imagination. According to a survey, direct mails made in white envelopes often have at least a 5% chance of getting opened. It’s human nature to be fascinated with the unknown. That’s why there’s a very good chance that your target clients would open your mail just because they want to know what’s inside it even if there’s a possibility that it will suddenly blow in their face.
The Ubiquitous White Envelope…
Lastly, using plain white envelopes are cost effective. You could find white envelopes everywhere, even in small shops and drugstores. You find them in all shapes and sizes.
So next time you mail your proposal and marketing materials, do it in a white envelope. It’s professional, it’s intriguing, and it’s the accepted standard in the postal service.
