There are several different types of Facebook status which people commonly use on the network. These range from the amusing to the vulgar and cross pretty much every path in between. In this article, I'm going to tell you how to identify each type of status, and what each ones really means!

You may not believe it, but people put a LOT of time and effort into their Facebook status update messages. I'm not quite sure if Facebook is the new Twitter, or if Twitter was the old Facebook...but whatever is the reality, it seems that if a person can't jot down a humorous Facebook status update on their homepage, then they don't bother writing anything at all.

But funny updates are not the only type of status. In my years on Facebook I have seen different types and breeds of message grow and disappear – and now that there is no need for adding your own first name in the Facebook profile update – there is a lot more possibilities regarding what genre of message you can write in your Facebook status update.

So here are five different types of Facebook status – which one do you generally utilize?

The Cool Facebook status update

Recently becoming more and more widely used, the 'cool' Facebook message is one which includes any number of symbols or special characters which you can find by pressing hidden keypress combinations on the buttons on your keyboard. When people see these Facebook statuses they think 'wow...epic...how is that possible?' and then they erase it from their mind and return to their job...

The amusing Facebook status

Since Facebook removed the necessity to insert your own christian name in statuses, more and more funny lines and gags have started appearing inside the wall feed messages. They range from the tasteless, to the ridiculous, to the side-splitting.

The status of the philosopher

Facebook is amazingly popular with College and University graduates throughout the globe, and if there is one thing that people who study appreciate (except for getting wildly intoxicated and tasting prescription drugs) it is acting like philosophers. What better way to make people think your mind is capable of individual thoughts than by copying a quote someone who has been dead for 300 years? Exactly.

The ironic Facebook update

Due to the limited space in the Facebook status update box, funny puns or jokes have started becoming increasingly popular. Short, accurate and can make people laugh out loud!

Romantic Facebook statuses

As Facebook becomes more a device used for worldwide communication and helping people stay in touch, more and more people are utilising it to communicate with family members and friends around the globe. No communication application would be the same without slushy, romantic status updates from lovers who are longing for oneanother from a distance of 10000 miles...

So, there you have them – funky, amusing, witty, philosophical and romantic. Which one is your one? Don't deceive yourself now...be honest!
