Accutane is a very strong drug and research shows that people taking it have an increased risk of developing irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). There have been reported cases of people taking accutane who have developed IBS. Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a disorder in the lower intestinal tract. People with IBS may have abdominal pain, bloating, distention, diarrhea, constipation, mental or emotional distress, depression and loss of appetite.

Patients should read the medication guide provided by your pharmacist before you start using accutane. Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. Results vary and treatment may take up to 1-2 months before the patient notices the full benefit of the medication. In addition, the manufacturer does not recommend long-term use of isotretinoin.
