When you come off the accelerator the throttle butterfly is closed and this boost has no escape route so backs up through the intercooler causing back pressure on the turbo which tries to stop if from spinning. Fitting a dump valve gives this boost the all important escape route it needs. As a result turbo lag will be reduced resulting in faster pick up between gear changes. A dump valve, or commonly known as a blow-off valve, is a pressure release system in turbocharged engines. It fits between the compressor outlet and the throttle, and it reduces the wear on the turbocharger, as well as the engine, by relieving the damaging effects of the compressor. It allows compressed air to either re-circulate or vent to atmosphere by bypassing the pressurized air on a closed throttle.
