When it comes to welding aluminum, you can make use of any welding technique available in the market. Given the astronomical high cost of TIG welder, you might be tempted to opt for other welders as well. However, TIG welder is by far the most effective method for welding aluminum as it ensures safety, easy to use and quality results which are very essential for creating sturdy welds. Never compromise over quality for cheap price at any given day and it is very important that you create sturdy welds, especially when you are involved in heavy manufacturing. TIG welder is a highly efficient and effective welding tool for welding aluminum metal.
It is also very important that you set your TIG welding machine with the right parameters for ensuring high productivity. The general settings for welding aluminum are given below.
1.Set the current polarity to A/C settings.
2.The ampere value should not be more than 1.5 amps per 1/1000 inches of thickness of aluminum.
3.Set the amperage and contactor buttons to remote position.
4.Based upon the size of the cup, the torch shielding gas should be set to around 15cfh. If the cup is smaller than #7, set the shielding gas value to be lesser than 15cfh.
Things you ought to watch out for while welding aluminum using TIG welder:
1.Electrode gets hot at 250 amps of A/C. Never use the same electrode for DCEN.
2.Make sure to set the high frequency to continuous mode. The system loses half cycles if this point is ignored.
3.Do not use pure tungsten for TIG welding aluminum.
4.Always watch the angle of the torch if you do not want to puddle.
5.Check the shielding gas flow if the created arc is too loud. Make sure to use Argon as shielding gas.
6.Length of the arc is very important for creating perfect welds.
7.Filler rod should be of the appropriate size. Big size leads to loss of heat while too small size melts down even before it reaches puddle.
8.Always use stainless steel wire brush for cleaning aluminum.
There are several websites online sharing details as well as selling TIG welders and aluminum welders. Use them wisely to create sturdy aluminum welds.
