The Only Reason You Should Network Is To Create Relationships. |

You want to make yourself memorable, but you also want to show the other person that they are memorable too. |

Showing up at an event just to hand out and collect as many business cards as you can is not going to be a productive exercise.
It has also been said, that people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. And trusting that you care takes time to establish in the other person’s mind.
Customers, clients, consumers, buyers, prospects, whatever name you give your target individuals, they won’t do business with you until they get to know, like and trust you.
Clearly, you have only a short time to make these networking connections, but use that time to really focus on the person who is right there in front of you.
Don’t keep watching the door to see who else is coming in or looking over the individual’s shoulder to find your next target.
In this situation, it is really quality rather than quantity of both time and conversation. Look at the business card that they have handed you and notice and mention anything unique about it or the work they do.
Ask how they got into their business or job and what they enjoy most about it.
In other words, make conversation to determine:
1. If this is indeed a person that would be interested in your product/service and
2. Is this someone you want a working relationship with
All this can be accomplished with respectful and insightful probing and listening on your part.
Everyone enjoys feeling appreciated, even for a few minutes. So, continue your networking, create business relationships and watch you business double and triple in 2010 and beyond.
