Some congregations struggle to close the gap between church and business. Pastors encourage business professionals to get involved with their congregants, and in return, give their support for the business community. It is becoming more common-place for pastors to now visit their congregants at work to better understand their professional lives and the challenges they face. Churches find themselves unable to connect with their congregants if they are unaware of how they spend their 50 hour work week. This leads to a deeper understanding of the whole person of faith.
Churches have also recognized the important role business people play in funding missionary work and supporting the church. Vibrant business groups enable churches to expand and reach more people than ever before. Far from de-valuing or de-emphasizing business, it is critical that churches embrace their role of spiritually feeding professionals so they can live out their faith in all areas of their life.
Values are often corrupted in the intense work atmosphere and socioeconomic environment that we live in, often becoming contagious. As a result, employees are not being treated fairly or struggle to keep their jobs. During this time, individuals either chose to live out their faith at work or succumb under the pressure. The church needs to reinforce to their congregants the importance of faith and moral values in everyday life, including business.
People appreciate the businessman who is able to lead an organization while also treating his employees with respect as Jesus does. Christ defined leadership, showing that boldness and courage combined with humility and compassion motivates and challenges followers. Values preached on Sundays need to be incorporated every day and during the work week.
The most successful business and public relations practices are usually based on Christian principles. Showing congregants that having faith to follow Christ into the workplace will bless every area of their lives.
