To be in Berlin and miss the Berlin Love Parade will be like being in a Rock concert and sleeping through it. Berlin, Germany has become the hotspot of various genres of music in the recent past and the Berlin Love parade is testimony of one of the greatest tribute to music. Let’s take a walk back into the past and see how it all began. The Love Parade originated in 1989 as a popular festival in Berlin but now it is celebrated globally. Some of the other countries hosting the Love parade include Vienna, Mexico City, Sydney, Leeds, Santiago, Tel Aviv, Acapulco, Cape Town, and San Francisco.

The flame for the first Love Parade was initiated when Europe including Berlin was being swept by the winds of change. It all began four months after the demolition of the Berlin Wall in 1989. The Love Parade was a statement to mark the freedom and the new chapter in the history of Germany. The first love parade in Berlin was initiated by the fresh Berlin Underground under the leadership of Matthias Roeingh aka "Dr. Motte". At that time, it was less of a parade and more of a political demonstration targeting achievement of peace and international understanding through music. From 1989 till 1996, the love parade was held at Ku'damm but since then more and more people have started to join this festival making it too crowded and Ku'damm has run out of space.

After this the love parade moved to Straße des 17. Juni near the Tiergarten Park in heart of Berlin. This place has a lot of space and can accommodate the rising interest in people to participate in this great parade. The main attraction of the parade is the Siegessäule (Victory Column), which stands in the middle of the park. The Siegessäule is marked by a golden angel stands at the top of the column and has slowly come to represent the symbol and the spirit of the parade.

Music is the heart and soul of the love parade and the predominant genres include electronic dance music, which is further categorized under mainly Trance, House, Techno, and Schranz music. There have been many attempts to introduce various styles like Hip hop but that has failed.

Although the love parade started with hardcore and gabber music but the styles have changed drastically and hardcore and gabber got removed to be replaced by mostly trance. The grand finale of the love parade is called "Abschlusskundgebung" which is a half hour concert led by some of the world's top DJs like Paul Van Dyk, DJ Hell, DJ Rush, Westbam, Miss Djax or Chris Liebing and Drum Connection. During the grand finale all the trucks in the concert zone are connected or parked next to each other in such a way that they are on line with the statue of victory that is also the podium for the Turntables. This is the stage for the DJ’s to play to a crowd of around one million people. It can never get any better than this!

The Berlin Love Parade turns the entire city into one big clubbing experience in the middle of July and is louder that some of the biggest concerts on the planet. There are water cooled sound systems on trucks that recreate a sound floor with hundreds of megawatts of pure music. The trucks are the main catalyst of the parade and feature local talents, as well as new clubs and their DJs. By thumb rule, the trucks can only be allowed if the sponsors are from a techno field like clubs, labels or stores. There are Berlin Love Parade special CD’s like the one that was taken out in 1997 called “Let The Sun Shine In Your Heart - Love Parade Official Compilation Berlin 12.7.97” by various artists. With an Electric blue cover, the album included Dr. Motte & WestBam Sunshine (Short Mix), RMB Break The Silence (Vinyl Mix), Members Of Mayday Sonic Empire (Original Mix), Jam & Spoon I Pull My Gun Twice, K5 Passion (Original Edit), Three 'N One Sin City, Paul van Dyk Forbidden Fruit (Video Edit) and many more.

That’s the Berlin Love Parade for you but honestly, you need to attend one to live the experience!
