The Importance of DIWALI Idols

Diwali is the festival when almost idols are worshiped. Laxmiji and the Lord Ganesha are the main idol in Diwali festival. In the honor of idols, people clean their houses; decorate it with diyas or candles, and do puja offering sweets after sunset in Diwali.

India celebrates many festivals in whole year. There large collection of festivals in India. Mostly festivals are started with God or Goddess. In India, some people’s thinking is like that its inauspicious if people will not start their day of festival with idols. In different kind of festivals in India, mostly idols includes in Diwali festival. We can also say Diwali is the festival of Idols.

In the festival of Diwali, people worship many idols or statues or photo of the Goddess Laxmiji, the Lord Ganesha, the Govardhan, the Goddess Durga, the Goddess Sarswatiji and the Lord Krishna etc. in Diwali, Laxmiji and the Lord Ganesha are main idols. The Goddess Laxmiji is the idol of wealth, peace and prosperity both material and spiritually. Laxmiji and Ganesha puja is the most significant aspect in Diwali festival. The meaning of Laxmi in Sanskrit means “goal” comes from ‘Laxme’ word. This word describes “the goal of life” which defines spiritual prosperity. The people of India start their day with name of “Shri Ganesha” who is Lord and demolisher of obstacles. The spiritual traditions manifest itself in various festivals in India. Another Goddess in Diwali is Saraswati who is the Goddess of wealth, knowledge, wisdom, sympathy and learning. In Sanskrit, Saraswati means “the essence of the self”. Saraswati signified as the divine consort of Lord Brahma in Hindu mythology.

According to Indian people belief, people do Laxmiji and Ganesha puja after sunset in Diwali. In the festival of Dipawali, people of India worships all idols with Puja-Thali, sweets, diyas or Diwali candles, Diwali crackers, flowers, dry-fruits, Diwali rangoli, Diwali silver coins, people decorated their houses with Diwali torans. In the occasion of Dipawali, people go at their friend’s and relative’s houses and also take mithai-thali, chocolate hampers, silver coins or Ganesha-Laxmiji idols as gifts for them. People of India usually give Diwali idols or statue as a gift, they make Diwali idols like Laxmiji or Ganesha in greeting card, they buy silver or golden coins of Laxmiji and Ganesha in the festival of Diwali.

After finishing whole cleanness, people starts puja of idols in Diwali. Some people believes that the Goddess Laxmiji will come in their clean house that’s why they start clean their houses before the coming of Dipawali to impress Laxmiji. People offer fruits, sweets which are made for Goddess, dry-fruits, flower (lotus) and sing aarti in her praise. Like this way the importance of idols is so much in Diwali festival.
