European in design, the Victory Monument stands out among the city’s other monuments which display a uniquely Thai or eastern influence. Employing the shape of the obelisk which is frequently used in commemorating military victories and fallen heroes in Europe and America, Bangkok’s tribute to its war heroes also includes five statues. Surrounding the obelisk in a heroic and poignant fashion, the five structures denote the five forces that were responsible for the country’s victory, namely the air force, navy, army, police and civilian forces. Created by famed Italian sculptor Corrado Feroci, the five statues stand triumphant encircling the obelisk. Bronze plates bearing the names of the fallen have also been placed beneath the statues as a memorial for those who lost their lives in service of their country.
Taking the shape of five bayonets clutched together, the monument’s shape symbolically displays masculine strength in the form of a sword. Constructed almost completely out of marble and concrete the monument towers above the city at a height of 50 meters. As one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks, the Victory Monument reserves a special place in the heart of Bangkok while almost all foreign dignitaries who visit the city do not forget to lay a wreath at this historic venue.
Those who wish to see this Bangkok landmark for themselves will find no better accommodation than those at the President Park Bangkok. As a first-class Bangkok service apartment facility, this charming venue encompasses all the needs of both the leisure and business traveller. Make a smart choice and make a reservation at this hotel apartment Bangkok .
