The restaurant feels extremely warm and decorative with Thai, Malaysian and Indonesian carvings on the floor and walls, and even a gentle trickling water fountain making it even more relaxing whilst eating. Whilst it is undoubtedly a fabulous place to be the most attractive element has to be its food.
Jakata restaurant specialising in South East Asian foods with tastes from Thai, Indonesian and Malaysian cuisine, the menu is full of variety and exotic flavoured dishes, the restaurant aroma is filled with coconut, lemon grass and ginger. Even on a Tuesday lunchtime when we visited it was full of people enjoying one of the set lunch menus. I have to say the value is second to none at £5.95 for three courses.
Whilst munching my complimentary prawn crackers I browsed the menu finding it hard to narrow down my choices. I eventually decided to try a selection of starters. The crisp, light vegetable spring rolls, prawn toast, classic chicken satay and a fragrant Thai fish cake. This came served with a selection of dipping sauces which was a delicious start to the main meal.
One of the most impressive parts to eating at Jakarta was the presentation of the food. Every item of crockery and cutlery added an individual touch to each dish with blue and white hand painted china, jade green dishes and delicately carved vegetables turning each dish in to a work of art.
For my main course I went for the manager’s recommendation, exotically named dish Kuzy Ayam. The tender chicken breast dish lightly covered in batter, topped with a rich creamy and tomato sauce was truly mouth watering but also came garnished with a crunchy cashew nut, and a side shredded lettuce salad with carrot, red cabbage all created a stunning combination of flavour, complemented by the fluffy steamed rice.
All the meat dishes are halal except for the beef and duck, and there is plenty available for the vegetarians. For fish lovers will be in there element as your choices are from prawns, luxurious lobster to elaborate java squid and this is just a few to mention but all served with a variety of toppings.
In fact there are so many fantastic dishes on the menu it can be hard to choose so I recommend you make more than one visit or just choose the popular house specials, one of which is named Rijstafel will provide you with the perfect solution.
Jakarta offers a really authentic eating experience, so whether you are popping in for a quick lunch or a special celebration dinner it is clear to see why it was voted restaurant of the year by so many.
The restaurant is open six days a week and well worth a South East Asian experience.
