Stained or discolored teeth are common among adults of all ages. The key to a long-lasting bright and white smile is to have your teeth whitened by a cosmetic dentist before discoloration becomes too severe. |

Many people associate professional teeth whitening with movie stars and brides - but in fact, it is the most popular procedure in cosmetic dentistry.
In-office or At-home Whitening
You can choose an in-office or at-home procedure, however, dental whitening in-office works better than at-home kits. That is because the in-office product is stronger, the effect and the outcome are both quicker, and the amount of discomfort is diminished.
If you open the dental tubules and you use a laser over the process of an hour, then you can apply the desensitizing agent to close the tubules and any thermal sensitivity is gone in 24 hours. If you choose at-home dental whitening strips or other whitening products, such as trays or toothpastes, it needs a few treatments before your teeth become sensitive. When your teeth are sensitive, that means the product is actually doing the bleaching. And if you use the product for another week or a week and a half, you will have all the additional thermal sensitivity until you stop using it and its effect will be reversed.
Avoiding Colored Sources
When the products are used for whitening your teeth, they open your mouth’s enamel tubules in order to get the desired effect. Therefore, during that time, avoid colored sources which can stain the teeth, such as red wine, coffee, tea, soda, tobacco and some medications.
Artificial Materials Are Unaffected by the Bleach
You should understand that artificial materials are not affected by the bleach. So if you have artificial structures in your teeth, only the natural ones will be bleached, and you will have uneven teeth whitening. Whether you get your teeth whitened at a dental office or at home, you will encounter the same problem as there is no way to bleach manmade material.
I also don’t suggest that pediatric patients get their teeth bleached; they should wait until all their teeth have fully erupted.
