Technorati WTF is the new Digg?

I’ve been toying around with Technorati WTF (which stands for “Where’s the Fire”) and I’ve been watching it for a while. In fact, a few minutes ago I created a WTF for Dave Pasternack.

Anyway, they rank the stories based on the amount of votes that it receives and when the amount of votes dies off during time, the lower the story sinks (from what I see). The more votes you get, the higher you go up.

Now this doesn’t require a ton of brain activity to figure out that Digg works the exact same way. If you receive a certain amount of Diggs, you will reach the homepage. Over time you will be dropped out of the homepage when the amount of Diggs will die off. Of course they have a buried section, but this is because they have so many stories submitted, while Technorati WTF is still new and doesn’t receive as many stories.

Now I used Digg as an example, even though most other Social Media website like Netscape work the same way. I’m just speculating here, but do you think Technorati WTF will last long in the Social Media industry or will they die off?

I personally don’t think that they can stand to compete with Digg, but the fact that they have so many bloggers could be an advantage over Digg, since bloggers obviously want to talk (otherwise they wouldn’t own blogs).
