Care must also be taken when setting or cutting a tanzanite. Any fissure may rupture if not taken care. Even when the stone is heated many cracks lead to breakage of the tanzanite. It is very important to avoid exposure to sudden temperature changes or heat.
Tanzanite is also sensitive to pressure and has a low resistance to ultrasound. High-frequency vibration can be dangerous causing an unrepairable damage to the stone, so it should never be cleaned with the ultrasonic cleaners commonly used by jewelers. While cleaning tanzanite at home use a small soft brush or cloth and warm soapy water. Wit gentle hands clean the upper and the lower side. Rinse well and dry with a soft cloth.
Tanzanite jewelry should be avoided during vigorous activities as they might harm the gemstone. As sudden pressures can scratch or even break the tanzanite. Tanzanites are ideal when worn as earrings, pendant or dress rings. Settings that secure your tanzanite properly like a bezel or a surrounding diamond prong or pave are ideal. Diamonds enhance the color of the tanzanite.
When keeping loose tanzanite keep them in separate boxes or wrapped in cotton in different pouches as when put together there are chances they might get scratched. While holding a loose tanzanite take care that you don’t drop the stone, it is always advisable to keep a cloth on the table beforehand just as a precaution.
If ever you feel the need to repair or alter your tanzanite jewelry make sure you get your tanzanite removed first. As their might be high chances of your stone being cracked as a lot of pressure is exerted during the setting.
