In addition, governance ensures that any collateral damage to other activities is minimized. In many cases, collateral damage is subtle, because it may stem from taking resources that are needed by other activities. For example, this could reduce the motivation of people doing other activities, leading to sub-optimal performance.

• People management
When implementing a strategy, most of these governance activities are performed by line managers. So it is imperative that all managers and people involved can understand what is happening and what they need to do in real-time.
Sometimes project management is employed to provide governance for implementing a strategy. This makes the involvement of line managers more difficult and raises a lot of issues that need to be managed.
