As a practical instance of this behavior, you may come across the below error message when you select literal string, which represents datetime as column in query that accesses a server linked to MS SQL Server 2000 after applying MS SQL Server 2000 SP3 (Service Pack 3):
“Server: Msg 7341, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Could not get the current row value of column '(user generated expression).Expr1002' from the OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB'. Could not convert the data value due to reasons other than sign mismatch or overflow.
[OLE/DB provider returned message: Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.]
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB' IRowset::GetData returned 0x80040e21: Data status returned from the provider: [COLUMN_NAME=Expr1002 STATUS=DBSTATUS_E_CANTCONVERTVALUE]].”
After the above error, you cannot access your significant data from SQL Server database. To extract data from affected database, you need to perform SQL database recovery.
Cause:
MS SQL Server SP3 brings in a change, which affects remoting for string representation of the datetime. The problem can also be caused due some missing or corrupt files during the update process.
Solution:
You can sort out this problem using any of the below methods:
Use datetime variable.
Obtain latest service pack of Microsoft SQL Server 2000.
Restore backup from the most recent backup.
Repair and restore corrupt SQL Server database using advanced and powerful MS SQL recovery software.
The SQL recovery tools use efficient scanning techniques to thoroughly scan entire database and extract all inaccessible data from it. They offer safe and easy recovery in all database corruption scenarios with non-destructive conduct and simple graphical user interface.
