Jelly Belly is unique in that the factory offers tours every day of the week. Yes, seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays, excluding holidays. Normally, you would hear about factories only giving tours during the week only.
You don’t need to make reservations, but since so many people come to visit each year, your best bet is to get there early. It’s a forty minute tour, but you may end up staying longer.
During the week, you can look at the employees working from walkways that are enclosed above the actual factory work area. When the employees aren’t working, which is during weekends, holidays and when the plant shuts down during the end of June, there are guides available with videos to show you what actually goes on.
The factory gushes out over a million of those little colored beans each day. It takes at least seven to ten days for processing and completion. Do you believe that these beans go through a process of taking steam baths and “sugar showers”?
Wow, it makes you think that you’re at home somewhere. After they’re processed with syrup and coated with more sugar, they get their shine and the Jelly Belly logo.
At the end of tour is when you get the sweet treat. The guides are waiting for you with samples for you to try.
Here are some other facts about Jelly Belly beans:
• At least 14 billion Jelly Belly beans are eating every year.
• When Ronald Reagan was elected President of the United States, it was reported that he ordered at least 3 ½ tons of Jelly Belly candies for his inauguration. Guess what the colors were? Red, white and blue!
If you have a family and want to see an attraction in California, the San Diego Zoo would be the place to go. Most, if not all children enjoy going to the zoo. The San Diego Zoo is one of the most visited zoos in the world. You will have to pay admission to get in, but you can park for free. The zoo is located in Balboa Park, near the downtown San Diego area.
In addition to the usual cast of characters there, you will also see animals that you won’t find anywhere else. At this popular attraction in California, you will find koalas, “tree kangaroos” and “komodo dragons”.
Hmmmm……..and you thought dragons were make-believe! If you’re into horticulture, the zoon has a botanical garden with lots of plants (over 6,500). Some of these plants are so exotic, they beat out the animals in that category!
To get there, you can drive, take a taxi or use public transportation. It’s not recommended to use the tour companies because they charge you more than you need to spend just to get to the zoo.
This is one attraction in California that is definitely worth seeing.
