An improvement on traditional liposuction, Smart Lipo is performed with a 1mm tube that uses a laser to disrupt and coagulate fat cells on contact. The smaller size of the tube and the use of laser technology means that there is little or no bleeding or bruising, and patients are left only with a dull ache rather than the severe pain sometimes experienced after traditional liposuction.
Over the months following surgery, the resultant liquid fat is metabolized and drains harmlessly away via the lymphatic system. The laser heat also stimulates the skin’s fibroblasts to produce collagen, leaving skin firm and tight (preferable to the loose skin left by liposuction). Research has shown that little (if any) fat is reabsorbed, and with Smart Lipo scarring is minimal. Smart Lipo is performed under local anaesthetic, meaning minimal downtime and a return to work usually within a day or so.
