Symptoms that are more directly involved with your sinuses are: sore throat, runny nose, coughing, sneezing, and as a result of these, halitosis (more commonly known as bad breath). To treat these symptoms, you may take a decongestant. |

For Every Symptom, There is a Corresponding Cure
To determine whether you have sinusitis, you can pay close attention to the symptoms that first make you think that you might have it. For example, if you have a headache, it may or may not be due to an underlying sinus problem. Sinusitis causes more symptoms than a headache, but it is one of the more common symptoms. Facial pain is another symptom that people suffering from sinusitis suffer. To treat headaches and facial pain, mild, nonprescription medication such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen will help you feel better. Decongestants, just like ibuprofen, do not require a prescription and can be bought at most convenience stores, drug stores, or even grocery stores.
Feeling too sick to go out and buy medicine? Aside from medication, there are other simple treatments that you can do at home. For instance, drinking more fluids helps with your nasal congestion. Breathing in steam from hot water will also improve the condition of your nasal passages as well as your sore throat. Adding certain foods to your diet can also help with your sinus problem. Foods rich in vitamin C, spicy foods, hot tea, and hot soup are some examples of foods that can help you feel better.
Various Possible Causes, Similar Common Symptoms, Differing Cures
Sinusitis can be categorized in different ways. Certain types of sinus problems may be treated better with some treatments than others. For instance, sinus infections caused by bacteria can be treated with antibiotics, which do need a prescription, unlike ibuprofen and decongestants. Similarly, if your sinus problem is caused by fungi, antifungal medication would be the best course of treatment for you. Symptoms for sinusitis, no matter what may have caused it, are very similar that it is difficult to determine just what type you may have. The best thing would be for you to pay a visit to your doctor if your symptoms are not alleviated by simple home remedies and over-the-counter medication.
