However, with widespread use of ID cards in business then the need for a more advanced badge holder arose. Pins are damaging to clothing though that is initially what many commonly available badge holders used, they can also come undone easily and badges may slip out and be lost. However new holders were engineered to meet the new needs and still stay cost effective.
Replacing the badge may be a nuisance for employees as human resources is rarely pleased to have to replace lost identification cards, and it can be an unnecessary expense to the employer especially when secure badge holders are reasonably priced and readily available to suit almost every need.
Proximity cards such as might be used for employee access to restricted areas or even to serve as a time card, should be protected by a secure badge holder and attached firmly to the employee's clothing, should the card be necessary for identification while at work. Proximity badge holders are in common use wherever proximity badges are required and can be attached very firmly so that the card is impossible to lose and difficult to damage while thus secured.
There are instances when a standard holder for the ID card will not be comfortable in an employee's particular case. For instance, plumbers or maintenance persons may need a sturdier holder for their badge if it must be displayed for identification purposes. In that case, a more rigid plastic holder is available which will help keep the ID card in place and undamaged in conditions where other holders might be ineffective.
Many businesses will place the new ID card in some sort of holder as soon as it comes out of the ID card printer but as noted earlier not all of these holders suit every job activity. Arm badge holders are an option where a badge at an employee's belt or attached at their collar or pocket is not convenient. With arm badge holders the employee's ID is secured to the arm and easily seen but will not get in the way of any job activities.
Temporary ID cards such as for conferences may not require as secure a holder since they are generally only to be used for a short period and often not returned if it is a convention. In that case, expense may be more of a motivator than security when selecting the right badge holders.
