Though these events are exceedingly unusual you must be educated and know what to do. Accordingly, here are ten points which will keep your classroom prepared in an emergency.
This information was based on a group of thirty children so you can scale any amounts given accordingly to fit your requirements. It is important to store school survival items in a plastic container or even better, a camping type toilet. School survival equipment should be kept out-of-reach in an area such as a supply room or teacher's stockroom.
1. Always make sure you have sufficient food supplies. You should have a minimum of 4 - 2400 calorie energy bars for each person. These bars will give each person sufficient energy to make it through a classroom lockdown. Make sure to purchase food bars that have a minimum of a five year shelf duration. It is also a good idea to pack some sweets which can help the students to take their minds off whatever is going on.
2. A sufficient, clean water store is imperative, so you should ensure that each student has an Aqua Blox container as well as water purification tablets for extended emergencies.
3. You must have a whistle of some type. Even though it is a very basic piece of equipment, it will likely alert your rescuers. If your class becomes severed from the other areas of the school, a whistle may alert aid workers who are trying to find you.
4. A flashlight and a radio should be included in addition to some form of lighting which could be used as an alert beacon. An emergency glow stick would be ideal. The radio will provide a welcome distraction but more importantly, it can keep you up to date on news and information which could help you determine what to do next.
5. You should always store plenty of sanitation supplies. Essential things to store nearby include toilet paper rolls and hygiene provisions. Also, store chemical bags to eliminate human waste. The ability to dispose of human waste is incredibly important. You can see why it is so crucial to locate a portable toilet which can also become a storage container.
6. For your hygiene needs, include some wet naps and a few small containers of hand sanitizer. A few air fresheners are not bulky and will keep the air more pleasant in restricted quarters.
7. A general first aid kit is a necessity and will be beneficial if you get the best one available. It needs to be large enough for the whole classroom.
8. The AM/FM radio was mentioned earlier as a form of entertainment but I would recommend including several decks of playing cards and games for children. It is essential that everybody is kept busy rather than worrying about the negative.
9. Make certain that someone is watchful at any given time to listen for rescuers who are attempting to make contact or for any other signs, such as a public announcement.
10. As a teacher, school survival depends on your decisions, so remain collected under all conditions and this model will make survival more manageable for everyone.
School survival kits are essential to store for use at a moment's notice. Being prepared as a school administrator or teacher is an important factor if you want to protect the lives of your students.
